Why Do You Blog?

Written by Dr. Eric Perry

We all have our personal reasons for wanting to publically journal or dare to attempt to write for others. I started my blog years ago as a way to escape. At this time, I was beginning to work on my Ph.D. My proposal had been approved and now came the difficult part of literature research and writing down coherently on paper what I had in my head.

I remember the exact night I started the blog. It was after midnight and ahead of me, I had hours of reading and writing. I have to admit I was lonely and seeking some sort of camaraderie as well as escape from my present task. I downloaded the WordPress app and tried to think of what to write that would be of interest to others and myself. My first post was “3 Steps to Stand Out in a Crowd.” It was an unusual topic that had nothing to do with psychology but at the time it felt like that was what I needed. Between work, trying to finish my pre-doctorate hours, researching and beginning to write my dissertation I was beginning to feel unconnected with myself and others. The post was about 200 words and I have to admit, not very good! But to my relief, no one was judging.

My first “like” was thrilling and my first “follow” validating. Someone else was actually up and either reading or writing on their own blog. To my surprise, they had read and connected with me. I soon found out that there were a lot of fellow night owls on WordPress, as well as, international readers who were starting their day as I ended mine. I believe in some way, we all write for connection. We seek to connect with ourselves or with our fellow man or woman. In the past 2 years, I believe I have read hundreds if not thousands of blog posts. I am not going to name any specific blogs as all are deserving of mention. WordPress is a beautiful community of nonjudgmental and supportive people. It is full of individuals who want to find a way to express their interests, passions, loves, creativity, sorrows, and pains. So many times, I have been moved to tears as I read the pains and sorrows of others. Your bravery is inspiring and it makes me want to be a better human.

The habit of writing late at night is no longer a habit as it has become part of who I am. I love reading and exploring other blogs. I try to like everything I read to encourage others. I want to make a promise to the blogging community that I will only write positive and helpful content. By doing this, I feel that I am giving back to the blog community that has given me so much.

In closing, I would like to say thank you to everyone on WordPress. You have made me a better person and for sure a better writer. Keep writing and expressing your soul in words. Keep encouraging and supporting your fellow bloggers. I would love to hear from you! Why do you blog and what are the rewards and negatives (if any) that you have encountered?

Kindly,
Dr. Perry

I have been blogging for over 13 years now. My desire was originally to share a different bird mentioned in the Bible, and then tell about it. I was a fairly new birdwatcher then. Our church had a newsletter and ask me to write them for it. They decided to but the letter on a blog, which I didn’t have a clue what it was. 🤔 So I started one of my own to practice. The rest is history.😀👍

I blog to raise awareness and to reason things out. If I don’t write them down, they churn around in my head and take up too much space. I absolutely love writing, it is liberating! Best wishes to you.

Now you post this! Just as I’m thinking about taking a break from blogging to focus on my novel writing!
I originally started my blog because I felt called to write but needed to gain confidence in my writing before I tackled a novel. I’ve developed a great community of followers, too, people I think would be great friends if I knew them in person. I love reading all their blogs as well, but I find it takes up a lot of time. Reading, commenting, responding to comments, writing blog posts, have all evolved into procrastination tactics that have drawn me from where I really need to be focused—my novel.

  5. I started blogging, quite simply, because I had too much time on my hands. I decided to write about health and fitness as that’s what I know most about (other than accounting but who wants to read about that!). However, after a while I realised, like you, that the WP community is welcoming, understanding and non-judgmental so my posts became more personal and then more personal still. The more I opened up the more love I felt from my fellow bloggers and, as someone who finds it difficult to be open and vulnerable in the real world, this was a revelation. I think if I’d received negative comments or harsh criticism in the beginning I probably would have continued on a ‘professional’ path but the likes, follows (thank you to everyone that does) and the kind comments have given me so much confidence in myself. However the best thing to have come from being part of the WP community was realising that I actually really love writing so I now have a very positive reason to get up in the mornings. Thanks so much for this post and for all your other fascinating insights into the human psyche :O)

I couldn’t agree more with everything you said, Dr. Perry! There is something validating and connective and inspiring about blogging….something I never realized until I started my own blog. It is a very positive way of interacting with others, because bloggers seem to be very supportive of one another. And I want to thank you for creating the space through your blog which allowed others to introduce their own blogs!

I blog to share what I learn from living life. My blog never had a huge readership and it never bothered me much because it will appeal only to a small audience and I do it primarily for my own interest to remember the journey I travelled. Down the good and the bad roads.

I started blogging as an escape from everyday life, and as a way to vent without consequence or inhibition. I’ve never had many followers, but I’ve also had long bouts of writing nothing until recently. Writing is my therapy, and I’m hoping to keep up with it this time around.

    G’day Doc.
I began writing when I got sober to make new habits, exercise my booze- soaked brain, and to connect. Several tears later I feel like helping others in the homes, because I’m seeing that some people are relying on Web-advice rather than leaving the front door behind and going out to a meeting. I can’t fight it, so I hope to contribute

I might have begun blogging a little selfishly because I saw it as a means of promoting my first novel, but that was more of a dream than a real goal. Soon enough, I saw how fun writing a blog is, and what a great community WP has. I mainly focus on writing, doing challenges offered by other people and creating my own, and all these pieces of flash fiction are not only a lot of fun, but they also help me explore the unknown. Whenever I get feedback from other fellow bloggers I feel acknowledged in this virtual world that seems to me more real than reality itself. All in all, it’s a great experience to be blogging and connecting with others. As you said, the WP community is a truly heartwarming one full of nonjudgmental and supportive people. It makes me glad to be here! 😀

My blog was my therapy to start with, in addition to the therapy I was having at the time.
Writing helps me to get it out my system and although I have changed and grown better since the early days, my blog can still at times be a place to vent, or just let it out.

My blog is followed by some friends and so they are able to keep up to date with me and we will chat in emails privately, behind the scenes.

I have also come across like-minded people, so we never feel alone in how we feel. As my blog has evolved, I know people like my positive posts and have enjoyed seeing me grow, enjoying what I may do, or feel next.

  15. That was a vulnerable transparent post made by a brilliant present mind. I applaud you for how far you have come Dr. Perry.

I blog because I have been fighting depression for the past 8 years. I know how it feels to be entirely alone in your warped space tucked away from everything.

I brought myself out of it at first in stutter-steps.. but as I began to learn about meditation, came into having my own business, joined the Marines, and absorbed so much delicious energy from enormously complex people I now count on as trainers, mentors and peers it has become an over-arching interest for me to cause new thoughts in others.

    Almpst an obsession.

I want to be the incremental reason why someone instead of wallowing in despair directionless a person picks up a book like Outwitting the Devil to read, or meditate, start up a business or what have you.

It is my firm belief that we are all infinity incarnate and there is a Giant who is the active side of our intuition slumbering awaiting our intentional self-making to awaken deep inside all of us. We are passivity and chaos.

It does no one any good if each of us do not take up the mantle and makes some waves.

I want you to astound me.

I blog when I feel the need to vent, when I feel vexed or simply when I am lacking a physical ear to bend. I have no agenda or goal, no desire to attract a following and no ambition outside of finding the act of blogging self satisfying.
Having said that, I feel a compulsion to continue to blog, despite a lack of readers, followers or ‘likers’. It isn’t just the pre-paid annual fee which motivates me, more the need to keep tapping away, for a sense of achievement, an idea there is a ‘letting go’ and perhaps the back of the mind thought that maybe I can put a smile on someone’s face now and then.
    Thanks for what you do.

I’m so glad you had the urge to start blogging. I’ve gained a lot from your posts and appreciate what you have to share. I started blogging mainly as a form of reflection, but I also did it in the hope that something I shared may help others. Fortunately, WordPress makes recommendations of other blogs to read based on what you write, and that’s how I came across this blog and others which have inspired me and helped me on my journey.

I began blogging out of the stark realization that I was turning 50 and had said for 30 years, “Someday I’ll write!” My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2012 and its a sobering thought I may end up where he is in a few years as the disease runs strong in our family. I needed to say some things, tell stories the way I remember them, share my musings on God, faith, love, therapy, and whatever strikes me as important! I don’t spend a lot of time on WordPress other than posting my own writings, but your blog speaks to me and I read it daily. I love psychology and wish our society would treat mental health as part of total physical health. It is not a separate entity and we ALL need to focus on it as much as we care for our teeth, what we eat, exercise, weight, etc. Thank you for your positive and enlightened words of encouragement and wisdom!

I began my blog to be the author of my story. A tragedy impacted me, leaving me not able to remain silent about my struggles with mental illness. On WordPress, I belong to something bigger. A movement, so to speak. The mental health community on WP is educating people daily by blogging personal experiences and fighting a the stigma that surrounds it. It is through our documentation that the future society will eliminate such negative assumptions about mental health. Blogging has changed my life and so has the community. It was the best decision I made! Reading and interacting with others has filled a void in my life. I am happy to see you feel the same about this community.

  28. I started my blog when I looked around and felt like an ailien on planet earth. I had no other plans but to try and write for people on the same journey as myself, dealing with M.E/CFS as a twenty-something who had been ill for years and years. Through my blog I found people to connect with who also had some sort of chronic illness. Or to spread awareness in the world. I have to say it’s improved my life and the only negatives are the pressure on my health to try and keep the blog going weekly, and being careful of people’s perception on what it means to have M.E/CFS or a chronic illness. I never want to make it seem all rainbows and sunshine but I never want to leave people feeling sadder at the end of my blogs than at the start.

I love blogging and it’s been a great outlet for me, the comunity is so supportive. It has helped me more than I could’ve imgained.

I blog because I used to love to write. Then I got sick, then I didn’t love to write. My brain doesn’t function the same now and I have a difficult time getting from one thought to the next. HOWEVER, my previous homeopath and current therapist both told me to write, so I am. I’m oversharing all over the place and have been once a week for a year. If/when I get well will I continue…? I don’t know. Maybe when my brain heals I will love to write again, and then yes the blogging will go on.

Thank you for sharing a part of yourself here, you’re helping make this world a better place!

I blog because I want share my story in hopes to connect with others. I blog about my weight loss journey and I want to motivate and inspire others to do the same. I started mine on my own, but I want others to see they don’t have to. I want to be there help and support others.

Some rewards that I have found with blogging is that I get to connect with others who share the same passions. I also have been able to connect with people who are also interested in starting their own weight loss journey. It’s a wonderful feeling!

Some negatives I find are in the blogspehere. I love connecting with people but I don’t like when others don’t try to connect back. I hate when people follow just to unfollow so it would appear they have lots of followers. I don’t gauge readership based on followers, I gauge readership based on interaction. I love when people leave genuine comments and I try to do the same. I also really like when bloggers take the time to respond to all of their comments. I hate when they get ignored, especially ones that challenge the blogger. Those are the ones that you should answer so you can defend your claim. When you ignore it, it makes me feel as if your claims are false.

Overall, I love the blogging community and it really is a welcoming place to learn, grow, and promote yourself. Congrats!

I blog because I write often, and I believe I have some talent for it, I write in some part to soothe the creative beast within, in part to cope with the many struggles of life, and in part because I just enjoy doing it. For all I write and have written I am not fond of sharing myself or my work. Somewhere down the line I came to believe I hold some wisdom, that I have some things worth saying, blogging to me is my way of opening myself up to the world albeit behind my electronic veil, but I think I have more of me to discover and I will never be comfortable sharing that if I never at least try.

Since my book is about my experience in therapy I focused mostly on mental health to start with. Complex PTSD can leave an indescribable emptiness inside a person, and I found amazing and strong people in the blogging community that get it and are supportive and caring. As I work on my children’s book my blog has expanded some. It has become my current choice for indulging a chronic journaling habit with some benefits of group therapy thrown in.

I started reading books on Philosophy, being able to relate to people of different cultures and ideas. I’m going to be learning Theology in the Fall at Stubenville University. Like you, when I got my first like by you and Ms Katobservations, it got me to explore both your sites. I enjoy the fact that everyone here can agree to disagree sometimes and be civil about it. I wish to share my love for poetry and help to make it flourish as an art form again. There are substreams feeding and nourishing the healing waters, that poetry has to offer and it feels right, to feed those sources. I also wander through the night, finding curious and wonderful posts and it makes my life and my inner world so much richer. That feeling of connection is something I see as one of the best features of WordPress. And if people actually take the time to comment on my work and share their thoughts it is the best feeling ever.

I’ve had a few very bad experiences in actual therapy so this is my solution. For years I wrote in notebooks and then threw them away when they filled up but a friend who is a professional writer encouraged my to put my writing out into the world. That is how I ended up here. I still write for me, poetry or short stories, just whatever is filling my head or heart at the moment. I’m amazed to discover people read what I write or follow my blog. And I’m extremely grateful to those who choose to comment.

It started out with a friend wanting to upgrade his blog.. I wanted to help but not knowing the ins and outs of the behind the scenes of WordPress, I decided to create one of my own a couple of months ago. I had no clue as to where to start but thought it a good idea to use my own photographs, search for a suitable quote and let it flow from there. I will be 65 this year and I love that my blog is bringing out stuff from way deep inside of me. It really has turned out to be an interesting journey so far and I agree, the WordPress community is wonderful. I really enjoy your blogs as they are so thought provoking. Thanks again for taking time to reach out to all of us. Kind regards.

Whatever reason inspired you to begin your blog, I’m so glad you have Dr. Perry, as your information is always quite valuable and insightful. I like your promise also, to only write positive and helpful content. ‘Wish so many others on the internet/social media felt the same. But, “let it begin with me,” is a motto I can appreciate and try to live by. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us!

I started blogging about my life as an aspiring novelist. My blog has evolved over the years and will probably continue to grow and change. Since I’m still not a published novelist, my blog tends to be more about what I’m reading. Sometimes I wonder if anyone cares what I’m reading, but recently two of my blog followers have told me that they look forward to my posts and use me as a guide for what they should read! That’s pretty scary and took me quite by surprise. I continue to blog because someday my novel will be published and I want my blog to serve as encouragement for others on that same journey.

Well Dr Perry first of all congratulations are in order for your Ph.D. In my case I am not a highly qualified professional, but a long term survivor of depression. Other than that, there are quite a few similarities to what you have written on, “Why I am writing a blog”
I was doing a page on Face Book called, Happiness Quotes and with it I grew and helped me to become positive, at the same time I overcame depression ~ of course with medication and counselling. The page grew so much that I started a closed group to share more confidential stories. As everyone doesn’t have Face Book, I then thought of expanding further!
Yes. I too can remember how I started, as I too being alone and wanting to connect with others. But there was a another strong feeling ~ seeing so many people going through depression and other mental issues, and also the issue of suicide, I somehow wanted to put out my story, to encourage and inspire, that they too can overcome or control to lead a normal and happy life. My psychiatrist too encouraged to write both on Face Book and then on the Blog, saying that even if I helped just one person, it will be a great blessing!
It took a lot of effort to overcome depression, and journaling was part of it, as I was writing on Face book. So writing the first post was not that difficult. But I had never done a blog before! So downloading a Word Press site, and doing up the blog was one big adventure as well as a big achievement. Well I too was waiting for the first,”Likes” and found out there were night owls like me, which was a thrill 🙂

My Blog is going to be 3 years very soon. It has not grown as much as yours, but gradually other sites are coming in and we have got to know each other and it has become like a blogging family, sharing our ups and downs that is going on in our lives 🙂
To round up the results so far: At times it is a big relief to write out my feelings and letting out stress. Sometimes the connections bring companionship to my lonely life ~ to feel that there are others too who are in the same boat like me!
But the most important thing that I have learned is: seeing so many going through their issues, I feel so fortunate that I have overcome such a long term depression as 15 years and today I am able to my story to encourage others and leading a normal life 🙂
I Thank you for such a uplifting and encouraging post. People like you are priceless to the world as mental issues are such an important topic. I wish you all the best in your endeavour to make everyone well and happy, in your profession as a Doctor!

I wanted everybody in the world and every third country to know that I was a blogger…lol. It’s been a fun, yet challenging road but overall it’s been great! I’m happy you started blogging, wishing you many, many, many more blogging stories that we’ll soon hear.

Dr Perry- a title well earned and well used in your effort to connect to the world and offer support. The fact you use the platform to learn, grow and take part in the lives of others is a testament to what you do, and I appreciate you visiting my little blog. I’m definitely going to read, share and interact.

As for why I blog- well I’m depressed. I failed in my effort to use my creativity to heal the world with entertainment, so I now blog to keep what little creative spark of mine alive- perhaps even myself, to some extent. I’m trapped daily in my anxiety and this is a place where I can turn my feelings into something- even if it’s not great art. That’s all I have left, it seems.

Hi, am glad to have read this blog. It really resonates with my heart. I started poetry as a form of escapism too. Although I only started posting in my blog at a later stage. I had some books which went missing at the time when I was so much of a reckless party socialite. My life was nothing to write home about because I was self-destructive. But as soon as I made the decision to stop that lifestyle and to follow Jesus Christ’s ways…I changed. The writings on my wall are my moments when I used to bleed tears, so that others may know that those stages happen for a temporary moment…and to know that happiness does exist….

I started blogging because I had a passion to write what was on my heart. I wonder about a lot of things, so I imagine what if’s and write about them. I have so much love and compassion that it’s hard to give it all away. I write prayers and short stories and I have lived an out of the ordinary life. I just haven’t figured out how to connect with other bloggers. I pray that everything you set your mind and hands to will bring you success.

Rewinding that day over and over again in my head I knew I had to do something. I wrote my first blog. It was about that day. What a release it was. I continued to write as if each blog were a chapter of her last year of life. I have been told my writings are raw. I am hoping that’s a good thing! I want nothing more than to help people understand mental illness and suicide and I want to share my strength for Hope.

I started blogging because I just felt the need to write and to put a voice, so to speak, to what was happening in my life. It became a journal and an opportunity to talk about my pain and to try and understand what was happening and what I was feeling. I had no intention of attracting followers, it was merely a platform for me to be completely honest with myself and to vent mostly. I wrote a post about the Sin of Guilt and it got a lot of likes and a number of people resonated with what I said. As the blog has grown, as have I, I use it to share my experiences and to help others realise they are not alone on this crazy ride call life. I am also passionate about Mental Health Issues, and use the blog as a way to educate and inform those who may not understand what they are, and to help remove the stigma of Mental Health Issues. I don’t like to use the words Mental Illness or Mental Disorders because this tends to scare people. Thank your for your insightful Blogs Dr Perry, I share some on my own blog as I find your writing informative and educational.

I wanted to meet new people, to discover a world I had never attempted to be in before. Although my followers are far less than that of yours, I have found some great people who follow (like yourself) me and I follow them.
    2. I love writing, I want to write novels, but to get better I needed to branch away from hidden stories in folders on my computer and paper, to that of spreading them online.
    3. A form of release and escape, it is a place where I can write freely and not be judged for it.

Maybe sharing my journey could compel someone to find the beauty in their own daily struggles … maybe some little something in there could possibly inspire someone to finally have hope?

I was once well spoken and now deal with a lot of word blockage and some memory problems which caused me to hold everything inside. I felt like I was going crazy. Writing helped me get things out and I could wait or study if certain words wouldn’t come immediately to mind, unlike speaking. I started my blog not as a blog, I’d never thought about me as a blogger!
I needed a website for my business as a martial arts teacher.
I did not understand enough english and wordpress sounded for me more like worldpress, and the whole wide world is the only place for me we are really citizens of: together. That’s my dream.
But now, oh my goodness, I could not understand how to build a website: the most instructions were written in English, and the few German instructions often came in a confusing translation. So I installed a second site to experiment with wordpress without scrapping my business site with every time.
Nice idea, but it didn’t work, I had to create some content. Help! I am not a writer! My next step was to went out and red a lot of other blogs and so I got an idea what blogging means. For me, the greatest thing is to meet people all around the world and to learn such a lot about other mindsets or life plans.
I love this community, its supporting and its positivity, it encourages me to write short posts in English and so I want to give back positivity with my contributions.

wow I love this post 🙂 I just started my blog less than a week ago. I’ve written 10 posts so far but I have WAY more to write. I have 15 years of catching up to do. I should have started my blog 15 years ago, when I was 15 and everyone was telling me to do it. I’ve had so many people continue to tell me over the years that I should blog, but I never did it because I was afraid. Afraid of starting it and then quitting it. Afraid that I wouldn’t keep up with it and then hate myself for giving up. I’ve finally realized that eventually we all give up everything 😉 so there’s really no point in trying to avoid it.

I started my blog last week because I am at the end of another thing I am quitting because it is so out of alignment with my soul, and I’m tired of running away from my fate. Writing is what I was born to do. Baring my soul is part of that too.

So far I’ve been sharing my posts on Facebook and getting a ton of amazing feedback. I have had people private messaging me just to tell me how much my story hit home for them, or just to tell me that they love my writing.

I’m overwhelmed by the responses but also honestly I’m still overwhelmed by blogging. I have SO much to learn still. I am grateful that my cousin and I have just decided to blog full-time together on Gold Millenial. She has studied online marketing for over a year now and is a great writer. I just know we are going to make an amazing team. After a decade of trying out too many other careers, we both feel that we just need to write, and we want to make this our careers. I’m excited to go into this journey with her and I know she is too.

You’re right about how supportive WordPress is. I’m also finding blog support groups on FB where everyone is equally as wonderful. I think the blogger community is just overall a group of amazing, compassionate, thoughtful people. I am so grateful that I finally decided to be a part of it, and grateful to be welcomed into the tribe.

I am only a couple of months in, started blogging originally thinking I will become a famous blogger and quit my job and hang out on the beach. I realized quickly that wasn’t accurate, I am still afraid to post my blog anywhere but here. I blog in hopes of connecting, maybe positively impacting someone else with my blog written around my mess and trying to navigate it and grow. Thank you for your blog, I have found it insightful and positive.

I really enjoyed reading this post as well as others you share with the wonderful blogging community. I started blogging in Oct of 2017 to continue to inspire myself as well as others. I am technically homeless & I have been since November of 2013. The journey has not always been great but I am inspired & taking one day at a time. To explain technically, I do have a roof over my head in an extended stay motel. My blog is very inspirational, at least I think it is. When life really grips I take some days off from blogging to regroup & I come back & I go all in.You are more than welcome to stop by https://toinspireus.com/ to let me know what you think. I love all the positivity in the community.

Thank you for what you write about Dr. Perry. You’re insights and thoughts are appreciated. For about 8 years, I was in a relationship with a narcissist/sociopath. During this time I was evicted from a few housing arrangements, had utilities cut off on a regular basis (even though I was told they were paid), and was the only one working. I endured lies, manipulation, emotional and physical abuse as well as finding out that the little girl that I was raising as my own was not mine when she was 18 months old. I understand now that what I was dealing with was something that I had never encountered before. I was given a front row seat to see the darkness that is a manipulative narcissist/sociopath and the level of damage it can do. I spread awareness where I can and share what pieces of my story that I can to help others see. I truly believe that education is the best defense against those for whom exploitation is a way of life. Cheers and best wishes!

  105. Thanks for sharing this post. I started my blog five years ago, although I wasn’t definite on what the whole thing would be about. I’m almost positive I’d mentioned what it’d be about on my first post, but I can’t remember. Eventually, the idea of book blogging was sent to me in an email and it caught my attention. So that’s what I’ve been doing, ever since. It’s also been a good way to get me to keep writing. I love promoting literature to everyone with whom I’m connected on social media. No matter what’s going on in the world, literature can teach everyone something. 🙂

  106. Wonderful post. So many reasons why someone decides to keep a blog. When I first began blogging, it was merely “because I could.” I learned that such internet platforms exist and thought it would be fun to use one. (Actually my first blogs were on Blogger, but long story ….) I have been doing my WordPress blog for 10 years (with varying degrees of consistency). During that time I have sifted through different reasons. Through all its varying purposes, though, I am glad that my blog’s there. I have encountered many interesting readers over time and have learned things about my own life too. It’s also a searchable virtual file cabinet.

I enjoyed reading your story. It reignites my enthusiasm for blogging. Thank you for sharing these thoughts.

Thank you so much for sharing. I have a blog for so many reasons, but mostly because I feel like while I don’t go through absolute and horrific things, I have had a healthy dose of heartache, frustration, and a sense of a general disconnect and blog for the others who I know are out there and feel the same way. Putting it out there is terrifying at times, but it’s also liberating.

  114. I began writing some content because I thought I had something to contribute in terms of thought discussion. When I became a full-time Youth Minister at my local Catholic parish, it became more of a place where I posted open-ended/critical-thinking questions for the teens in my youth ministry. It was a part f their yearly project. The blog still has that aspect today but I have added as many weekly scripture studies as I can, since my paid work at the church as increased to include a weekly study of the Sunday liturgies. This helps me post what I have already worked on last week too because I write my posts for a column that goes into the bulletin weekly, which needs to be written a week in advance for the printers. I post some of the work on Instagram for the youth too. My blog is linked to the youth website as well. I am trying to leverage my work so I get the most out of the time I take to write. Someday I will paste it all together to make a book or devotional or both.

Beautiful writing! I started blogging lessons, that I was learning from different experiences, but in a positive way. There are many sources that write stories of hurt, violence etc.. and so I wanted to write about the small positive things that we human beings do which gets ignored. There is so much good around us and I am just exploring that side of the world. Yes, I get encouraged when people like my posts and follow me:) I love what other bloggers write because they teach me so many things. Yes, WordPress is a wonderful platform. I write better. I’ve explored poetry. I’ve explored learning (been a teacher for 50 years now) and leadership. https://wordpress.com/post/solomonsadvisor.wordpress.com/5767 I keep looking for challenges to keep my brain active. I’ve now collaborated on 4 books that have been published in just 2 years and working on 2 others and a series of writing workshops. http://www.alternativebookclub.com is the result. Blogging is a means to an end, which has gotten me a whopping 34 followers on one and 17 on the other after 4 years. So no, I’m very much not successful as a blogger.

I started my blog after channeling on the question: How can I be the light that I came here to be? I had been considering starting a blog for some time at this point. I got a strong feeling that I could help a lot of people by sharing my story. That proved true when after my very first post, I had someone write to say that they had been talking to their counselor that morning about having suicidal thoughts, and that what I wrote had uplifted them and have given them hope. I blog to share my perspective on life so that I might help others facing similar challenges to the ones I’ve faced.

I started my blog to help myself after many life changing events happened in a relatively short period of time. My hope was, just maybe I could help someone else as I worked on overcoming all I had been through. It has proven to be a chaotically uphill road, full of every dynamic imaginable, or should I say unimagined.
I’m not a good writer by any stretch of the imagination, but I have always likes creativity, which includes writing. In an attempt to push myself out of any comfort zone I was cocooned in as well as connect with others I decided to start trying everything I was afraid to do and learn.

Hello Dr. Perry. I started blogging maybe two weeks ago; to be honest I cant really remember. I really don’t have any reason as to why I started. I was recently diagnosed with PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder as well as body dsymorphia and I struggle with codependency. I just got out of a two year relationship where it has become toxic to both myself and my partner. My psychiatrist would like to see me spend the next 12 months single as a means to work on myself. So maybe I started blogging because it has helped when I’m alone to distract me. It has also helped me to become a little bit more mindful thru out the day. I find myself writing down topic to blog about during my day. That has helped avoid ruminating thoughts.

It is my hope to inspire someone some day. I’ve been through so much in my life and I feel it’s worth sharing. Thankfully my experience has been positive and I haven’t had any negative from it. The one thing I need to work on is coming up with catchy titles. I don’t do well with that at all.

I’m glad to be part of your list and you mine.
I agree that connection seems to be the reason to blog for most. For me it was connection with myself. When I write I’m more in touch with my feelings.

I started blogging to connect with my Achilles heel which is not censoring my vulnerability.
I haven’t ventured out much to get to know the wider community I’m mostly a hermit who logs in to write when I feel inspired to and then leaves.
I plan to explore more thank you for your post I got more out of it then actual post question. I appreciated most seeing the strength in your vulnerability.

As long as I remember, I loved folk and fairy tales and stories. I loved listening to my Grandma reading them to me, I loved reading them over and over again and I always loved to tell new ones to myself. Now I took up again my StoryTelling and I’m trying to weave new stories of a new world for readers and dreamers. For someone who is very much level headed in everyday life, I need this freedom of roaming the magic of tales and to bring the seeds of reality into the sizzle of Fantasy.

I have had a website since 2010 (Spiritual Quotes To Live By) and have thoroughly enjoyed compiling it, but for several reasons I chose to take off the commenting. So although I was adding my own work, I very rarely got any feedback. But after being contacted by Amira (bodyandsoulnourishmentblog) asking if she could share my poems, I have been so encouraged by the comments she was receiving for them that I started to blog myself too. I am so thankful for Amira’s help and guidance, and now because of blogging I am getting to ‘meet’ so many other like-minded people. It has opened up a whole new world of connection, support and alignment!

Life has been getting in the way of blogging at the moment – but in a good way – I am on my summer holidays 🙂 I started blogging to document my experience of sudden hearing loss. Living in Spain, I was away from family, and I needed a way of making sense of my feelings and also wanted to record every step of my journey. I feel that blogging has helped me through this really challenging time in my life, not only through emptying my thoughts into text, but also by connecting with people who have read my blog and have offered kind words and support, and people who have gone through similar experiences. You were so kind to publish an article of mine that I wrote very early on when I had just started writing my blog, and that gave me so much confidence and strength to keep writing. I will be forever thankful to you for this. I can’t imagine my life without my beloved blogging world now.
    Take care.

You hit the nail on the head when you said some of us bare our soul, passions, and thoughts in the hope of connecting with people with mutual interest. At the end of the day when all the smoke settles from a busy day. We are left we our thoughts, feelings, insights and opinions. That either can uplift or drag someone down. I personally choose to try and be uplifting and real. If I can inspire others with the capacity to invoke thought and action to change for the better. My writing would have meant something and I have not written in vain. Thanks again!

This is one of the best blogs I have read. I actually started writing blogs after I made a promise to write and capture two dates in my life the 14/09/2017 and the 18/02/2018. Nevertheless it has led me down the same path as a means to get away from the hustle and bustle of every days life.
Also as a way to advertise my personal quotes with the hope that it will help someone somewhere reading it and help me understand others if they do leave a comment or two for me to relate to in future.
Thanks to all who have supported me thru and appreciate your support as well Dr. Perry who have been part of the impact in my life too.
Jah bless you all and have a great week ahead.

This post is inspiring me. The reason why many people blog varies, though I do think we all look for support and some kind of validation from others. I was always afraid to write my down my feelings, fear of anyone reading it all and making fun of me. Things have changed from then to now, but I still do have a lot of hesitation in trusting the process. Just today I wrote on my blog sharing my thoughts of past memories. After posting it, I remembered I had seen this post of yours here but had not read it for lack of time (a few days ago). Now I came back to read it. Never for someone else to read! This is a new and exciting journey for me. I’ve overcome so much in my little 28 years of life and I want to be able to maybe help someone else, inspire someone else, and motivate someone else through my words!

Dr Perry, your blog was one of the first few blogs that I’ve stumbled upon since I started blogging. I’ve always wanted start this path but never had the courage to put myself out there. At first , I was quite apprehensive to write my thoughts into words for the first time. One of the reasons is that I never had any formal training when it comes to writing. This is totally out of my comfort zone coz like you, I too am in the medical field. Being confined in the hospital most days of the weeks neither provides me an outlet for my thoughts nor it cultivates my pent up passion in writing. My little dream to write began as a child and finally at my late 20s it’s starting to materialise . Thank you for the inspiration. I will continue to write and sharpen my skills. Please continue to inspire others as well.

Hi… I blog because I enjoy it. I wanted a way to express myself, as you mentioned in your post. And I understand and feel everything that was mentioned in the post above. It may sound selfish, but I write for me. I think in writing for me, I stay true to why I started blogging in the first place. Which is basically, to write relatable space for others and to have a record of how I have personally developed. I like writing about, everyday life, simple things, thoughts feeling, etc. Lol! It’s a space of comfort for me. A non-pressured place. I like blogging. Half the time, I get to laugh at myself with things I may think and do. I get to relax. And it’s beautiful. Because life is already hard as is.

    Hello Dr Perry!

Congratulations on your interesting and uplifting blog!
It’s interesting because i started writing my blog just about 3 weeks ago, as a form of therapy, to share my experience with people, and hopefully inspire them.
I write as much as i feel like and of course i would be thrilled if i had many likes or followers, but i try to stay focus and think that that is not the main goal. I become really happy when i see someone has visited my blog, or commented some post. I believe if i touch the heart of one single person it is enough and i feel really good with it.

I was moved by your words. After writing some posts in a unstoppable flow and going out there exploring other blogs, it’s interesting and quite scary to see how much we have in common and connect with people we don’t even know.
That is why i think a blog will suit me better than facebook or Instagram accounts (that i have erased), so that i connect with people in a deeper and genuine level. So that i learn with them, and inspire them as well.

I am just in the beginning stage with my blog, but i am really enjoying and seems like i ended up in the right place. Where i can even share my photographies and tell the story behind them, a story or thoughts i had always been eager to tell.

Keep on with your good work. The world needs people like you, like me, and like us, inspiring bloggers. THANK YOU ❤

I am just starting, and I´m still looking for answers to the ´why´, but I see this experience as a therapy, a healing process and an acceptance one too! I´ve realised that my biggest fear is to end my journey without accomplish my biggest goal: knowing myself, knowing who I am! Not sure if anyone else will read what I write, but there are times that I do question who wrote those words in my blog! I am still waiting for my first visitor, and never had any likes, but I must admit that I´ve considered to like some of them! Just because they show me another piece of who I am, you know?

  179. Dr. Perry, this was the first post I read this morning and it is exactly what I needed to hear.

I started my blog early September because I was frustrated with the lack of resources for connections for parents with children on the spectrum. I started my own very small local support group at the local library, and also took the plunge into the blog world. Since I started, I changed my theme because I realized I needed to be more anonymous. So I edited the 4 or 5 posts I started with, taking out names and pictures. Now, I have broader scope of topics I can share about.

Even though I broadened my scope, the goal of my blog remains the same- to connect with others, inspire, get inspired, find hope and feel less alone and isolated.

While I felt I was some big hot shot for creating some big “connection movement,” I realize I am not unique. Just as you discovered, I saw too, early one, that we all want to connect. I have been inspired and hopeful to see that so many people started blogging for the same purpose.

    Faith in humanity restored!!

6 1/2 years ago, when I got sober, I learned how connections are what keep me sober. I felt a long in my addiction. I felt I was the only one who felt the things I did, and experienced things that no one else had. I found I was wrong. Our stories are unique but the tell the same story of hopelessness, faith, recovery and the chance of new life. I got that- a second chance.

Connections are what keeps us all alive!

Imagine what would happen if each one of us woke up and thought “how am I going to connect today?”

Thanks for your inspiring blog and allowing me to share enough so now I have some ideas about what I just may write about today!

    Best regards, S

  180. I love this. I blog because I felt like I kept giving the same advice out to friends. And I thought if I had helped them then maybe I could help them too. I have had a hard life, but I am still alive. And if I can come out the other side of all of my battles then so can everyone else.

Just like you when you started, still trying to get a handle on my writing skills.

I want to help people. And people are busy and can’t always listen. But if I write it, they can listen when they are ready, on their schedule/terms.

I see so much sadness in the world, and been through so much, I don’t want anyone to suffer the way I have. No human deserves that. So I try my best to smile and say hello and encourage them.

But some people just talk over me. So I am learning how to gain the control of taking over the situation. To get my voice to be heard, but without being rude and say be quiet and listen! Hahah

Anyways thanks for listening if you read this long comment. Lol

I cannot agree more on WordPress having a very supportive and non-judgmental community. When I decided, about 3 months ago or so, to blog “seriously” (I’ve been blogging on and off for more than 10 years, but back then it was more of a “dear diary” approach), I was fearful of the kind of judgments and criticisms that I might receive from people. But so far, I have only met kind and wonderful people on WordPress, for which I am thankful for. I have a strange feeling that “trolls” will not have the patience to lurk around WordPress, so maybe that’s why we have nicer and genuine friends here.

As always, I love your blog posts and find them very relatable (I wanted to do psychology, but circumstances were such that I ended up doing law instead). Thank you for sharing your insights with all of us, and for always being so generous with your support.

I started blogging to “Create” some “Space” for me, namely to distract myself from the emotional upset bullying was causing our children and us as parents.

I wanted to support other parents who struggle with bullying issues. Finally, after wo years of support and encouragement from fellow bloggers, it was cathartic enough to enable me write my first post dedicated to the topic of bullying…
    Bullying & Beyond 1.Take Heart

My blog does not point the finger of blame and I am not here to shame the perpetrators or any service providers. I’m here to open up a discussion on bullying and its domino effect on every family member. I’m here to share some insights gained through our experience and I’m here so you don’t have to experience what we experienced; loneliness and isolation. You are not alone! Much love, Marie xx

The singular and one that focuses on me is this outlet here that provides a form of meditation to me in writing my learns or feelings. The plural is as you say providing something for the community. It’s my implicit hope that someone will catch a read on my blog and it’s exactly what they needed to unlock the code to being the best version of themselves. Stay steady and consistent! 191. Thank you for another great post. I started my blog about a year and a half ago. After losing my dad in 2015 my life spiraled out of control. The grief had me contemplating suicide numerous times. I started this blog simply as a way of saying the things I didn’t get a chance to say to my dad. Most of my posts are a tribute to him and this gave me more peace than anything. A beautiful plus point was that I found I wasn’t alone in my despair. Being able to connect with others who have been through the same emotions made me realize just how connected we all really are….

Took many sessions with my therapist to finally step out of a discomfort zone that offered an illusion of safety while my heart cried to be heard. My first blog was “Eyes to Heart” where I could express myself through photography. Pressing that “publish” button was the hardest thing to do, for a while. The first “like” was thrilling, to be sure, and my courage has gathered from there. I now have four active blogs, a website and a couple of FB pages highlighting my photography.

Thanks for sharing your world with us.

Along with traditional therapy, EMDR, Reiki healing and of course, my running, writing has gotten me through some of the darkest moments of my life: parental abandonment and soon after, divorce. 201. I worked as an Entertainment Journalist a few years ago. I got to review theatre, musicals and all kinds of arts events. Also got to write articles for web and work on all kinds of web content and attend all kinds of festival launches and art galleries. I really loved it.

Free tickets to good shows then writing them up afterwards. Also coming up with ideas for articles related to the arts. But it was only temporary. After that ended then I fell out of writing for many years. But I’d keep thinking of things I’d like to write about. I also wrote travel pieces and bits and pieces in marketing jobs.

I’d previously had a few poems published in a comic, illustrated story poems, a very niche supernatural genre that I loved and had been writing about since I was a teenager. That was great. But after that I stopped again. I’d written in other temp jobs, but more boring stuff I had to do for work. Like press releases or just quite mundane stuff. I like to have a passion for what I’m writing about.

After a break up and a spell of unemployment last year, I decided to give blogging a go! I started one blog that I’d had in my head for years. Then this one. This is the one I am focused on but I have ideas constantly for other blogs. I’d like to create a website too. But I’m still trying to figure out the main difference between blogs and websites if you are writing about stuff, rather than a business. And yes would be cool to figure out how to make money out of blogging somewhere down the line.

I blog to be creative, to share things with others, to try and connect with others with similar interests. And to write about the things that I find fascinating or interesting. There is a personal freedom with blogging. You own your blog. It’s also a way to learn new skills and figure out all kinds of techie things. I’d like to make money out of writing, get articles or poems published here or there, but haven’t figured out a way yet. But I reckon whatever your passions are you have to follow them…

It’s good to read other peoples blogs too. But I do find it hard to connect with like minded writers on wordpress. There used to be a thing called First Friday which was great. You got to connect with so many other bloggers. There doesn’t seem to be much ways to connect with writers that have similar interests. You know, like wordpress groups, topics, etc. Sometimes I type a key word and don’t find what I am looking for. I just wonder how the algorithmns work on this…. I find your posts a good way to connect with other bloggers as your posts open up everything for discussion. 🙂

I blog mostly to be Creative and have an outlet for that creativity. To share interesting things. And to be inspired by other writers. And to learn. 🙂

The written word has always been my top choice of expression and it has always been my dream to be considered a Writer – to be acknowledged. I suppose that’s why I began my blog. I think I was searching for recognition of some sort. But over the past 6 years, my reasons for blogging have drastically changed. Now, blogging is like therapy for me. I write to encourage others but my need for encouragement (or SMILES, as I like to call it) is usually what prompts my posts. I also, like you, seek a connection with others. It’s been amazing to encounter so many new people, to see who likes which posts, who identifies with what I’m feeling and who finds real encouragement from visiting my blog. Blogging is also a creative outlet. I love creating images for each post and weaving together the perfect words to express my thoughts. It’s so much fun! Oh, and what better place is there to share my fabulous cooking failures! 😉 As you said – No one is judging. And that is a very good thing!

I started blogging two years ago and as you experienced the joy and happiness of that first like and first follow up was exactly very much similar for me toooo!!
I write whenever I get struck with whatever chaos goes on my mind and then I want to write all of them just to get a clear and detailed insight into what’s that exactly troubling me and as I write and write and write I magically get the solutions to the same as well.
    I don’t know how!!
It’s like I start to jot down the problems and when I conclude I get a perfect solution to it…
Though it doesn’t happen always…but still writing is like a meditation for me.
It liberates me of the chaos I have accumulated and reminds me that I. Free and that I don’t need to burden myself with unnecessary thoughts!!!
WordPress is a great platform where I found out that there are many mad people like me who think like me, write more beautifully unlike me and who have weirder thoughts than me!!!
And I really enjoy this space!!
And yes I really like your blog posts too….they are extremely positive and each of it has a different perspective which helps me to broaden my view and to know about otherwise complex human behaviour.

I had many doctors telling me there was a good chance I might never “feel normal”. I had gone undiagnosed for over 20 years and self-medicated with alcohol for the majority of that time. My cognitive skills suffered along with my physical health making medication and therapy difficult. I was only seeing extremely positive blog posts about “recovery, I felt like I had failed everyone and was a burden. When I started to see the overwhelming response to my first post I cried for over an hour with relief. I had finally found a place I wasn’t terrified of and began communicating with many different people from around the World who understood what I was talking about. I slowly started to pass on statistics and information on different mental health subjects and gained more followers (everything was double checked by a professional and I never tell anyone what they should do or what their diagnosis may be). I did take an extended break and found I started to feel worse and worse. I just recently started again. I find it helps when I’m manic and also grieving. Thank you for your posts which have helped me on more than one occasion.

  207. This is a wonderful post for encouragement for anyone. I will say that you were one of the first blogs I like when I started a couple years ago. I started off with a bang and veared off myself, personal isues then health concerns. Now I am back and not letting anything to get in my way. I moved to a better enviroment and I have been blessed with things falling into place. I am taking “baby” steps in regards to my health as well as mental health. I began blogging to share my life’s stories and I still have not done all that to share info. I want to bring out info on Chronic Kidney Disease, Missing Children, Suicide Prevention, Mental Health Awareness,, etc. I love to read books and review them. But there is so much more.So thank you for being one of the first blogs that has encouraged me since I began on WordPress. God Bless.

I started blogging because I need a distraction from a narcissist that I have had an online affair with. And I have some other drama going on as well. So I decided to do a 31-day blog challenge. And I have not made contact with him for two weeks. But I look at his social media every day. He has a new girlfriend and it hurts to look. I just have not been able to get myself to delete or block him. It is an addiction. I have found some blogs to follow along the way that are very positive and yours is one of them. Thank you.

I write because for as long as I can remember I’ve loved it: using pen and paper, linking words, expression, imagination as much as reading…and yes to connect with people. The hard part is “what to share and what to keep private” especially in this day where everything is available to everyone- the lost innocent thought or comment can catch up to you later —-way later.

I blog for many reasons. Your ideas of connection and validation are two reasons why I blog. It also does something for me internally to help sort out exactly what I’m thinking and feeling. It is extremely cathartic for me. I blog and write because I want to help others and hope that somehow what I write matters to someone else and helps them. Blogging keeps me hopeful.

I studied English Literature at University and loved writing essays and things but when I started my blog back in December, I realised that I had lost faith and confidence in my writing ability but I am slowly getting that back. For me blogging is a creative outlet and a way to keep my mind alert. I do it for me, but when I get a like or a follow, well, that is a wonderful feeling.

I started blogging because my private journals were getting tired of my daily musings – sometimes heavy, sometimes easy, mundane happenings. I was told to let my thoughts go public for the hope that maybe somebody can either resonate with the pain or just plainly enjoy reading my posts. Truth is, it was out of passion and love for writing. Thank you for the help and expertise you shared with your readers and fellow bloggers. May your tribe increase, sir.

I started blogging because I had a lot to say after years of autism parenting during which I had been relatively silent but observing and experiencing a great deal. At first I was terrified of the impact it seemed to have on people I knew, as well as on myself. Or maybe overwhelmed is a more accurate word. But now I just keep going. It’s a pleasure to read your blog, and I’m grateful for the connection to other bloggers too.

By doing this, I feel that I am giving back to the blog community that has given me so much.” This is really helpful to me. I’m still trying to sort out my blogging urge and make a kind of “rule set” or “guidelines” for myself of which thoughts and feelings to publish, and honestly this is exactly how I feel I want to do it too. Thanks really, a lot. Seeing you state it so eloquently is truly helpful. I will try to remember it in my continued blogging journey.

I was encountering difficulties in my studies journeys and am still having ups and downs. So I needed an outlet for my own voice and write on what I consider important and write however I please. Hopefully it might be of use to someone else other than a sort of therapy for me.I am so happy for your success in obtaining your PhD. Congratulations. My other reason is I want to practice my English writing skills and I hope I become better.

For some reason I like the idea you would feel the need to blog! I think it can be all too easy to think of professionals as being above us mere mortals (not hero worship, thought you might get some of that too, more just that the person we see in the therapy room seems tranquil and very much in control of themselves, though you might say that’s just an illusion!).

To answer your question, I blog firstly to keep a record of my psychotherapy journey and can’t rely on my memory like I used to, secondly because my therapist suggested I might want to try (I hear it’s somehow beneficial) and I’m a sucker for a new challenge, plus I find writing it out arranges my thoughts better than trying to talk it out, thirdly because as soon as I read other blogs here on WordPress I was moved like you were, and found it a useful resource. Finally, if there was any way I could pay it forward, I really wanted to.

I started blogging when my hubby got me a new laptop and I didn’t really have a use for it. My daughter told me about WordPress, I signed in and wrote a few short stories, not knowing anything about blogging and the blogging community. I didn’t write much until one day about two and half years ago I fell and broke my right arm. It was a bad fall, I needed surgery (plate and screws) and I’m all healed now with full use of my arm. But I was stuck at home with this laptop and many thoughts in my brain. I needed to write, love writing and so here I am.

This blogging community is AMAZING! Such supportive people, teaching me how to use tags, or encouraging my posts. I try hard to encourage back. I’m all about positive blogging, inspirational if possible! I have down days and will blog about them too… Just to let people know I’m human too. You are so inspiring! EXCELLENT post. I’m so very happy I have My Life and Horse stories blog. It brings me great pleasure, even though it was and sometimes is scary to share so much of my life. But in the end worth every word and photo!! 😍❤️😃❤️😉

At that point, my candidacy had been going on for almost three years and I needed a place to let out my thoughts. Only a few weeks later, I received my job offer and ever since, I have been writing about the life diplomatic – candidacy processes, federal service, travel adventures, and my work at (so far) two overseas embassies. My blog is for a niche audience and will never be wildly popular, but it is, like you said, an escape and a place to process. Every time I see your positivity and posts it makes me smile – thank you for writing and I am sure that you are helping a lot of people. Be well!

I really enjoyed this post and your honesty in sharing your thoughts. It’s always refreshing to me to hear ‘the why’ behind other people’s story.

I agree, WordPress is a wonderful community filled with people who care, share a similar life story and hope to encourage others. It has the ability to restore our faith in a broken humanity, you know?

By the way, hi fellow night owl! I’ve tried to make it work every other way, but alas, I give up! Writing at night is just what the doctor ordered for me. I see you agree 🙂

For me, blogging is truly about connecting, yes. I’ve been through unimaginable trauma in my life and I believe pain is for a purpose. We have the ability to reach down into someone’s pit and pull them out of the very place we’ve been. We can encourage, uplift, inspire and change lives. What in the world could be better than that? This is why I’m here on WordPress. This is why I blog.

Thanks for sharing your story and for being such a help to all of us. God bless!

I’ve been blogging since August 29,2012 and now 8 years later I would never even imagine that this blog would even expand to me doing my fan fiction or my Disney blogs. I have even thought about expanding this blog to where I’m able to do you tube videos, live streams and podcasts so that everyone can be on this blogging adventure journey with me. I hope that your enjoying reading my blogs as much I’ve enjoyed writing them.

I first began to blog because I wanted to write. I felt when I was writing that I could express myself completely and be understood by others. I have been blogging for a little while and my reasons for blogging have changed completely. I want to blog now to encourage others and share what my faith has done for me. I want people to have a safe place to come and talk and not to feel judged. I want them to feel loved and truly cared for. I have always been a caring person and this helps me to care for people even more. I want to share my insight with others and help them to know that they are not alone in this world. I want them to know that I am just like them and that even though we may be different we all face the same things in one form or another and more importantly I want others to know that they are not alone nor do they have to face these things alone. I love people. I love to meet people who are different than me and find common ground and talk about things. I want to make new friends and through others, I see the world. I see the goodness, the hurt, the pain, and the joy. I see the good, the bad, the ugly, the shitty, and the really shitty. I want to. I want to see it and I want others to see it in me. By us seeing these things in each other we can become united and therefore we can have more love, peace, and joy instead of bitterness, hate, judgment, and malice.

You words are inspiring and connecting to me.
I blog to inspire my own self, I like to express my thoughts on paper and read them out like some ten times I would read my own writing and then fall in love with my Creation and that gives motion to evolve more in writing. My thoughts initially were confined to a particular subject but when I started writing often I saw that I am trying to shift to versatile subjects and mostly now it has become positive or hope full and So I write more because positivity is just now multiplying in me. Also,I love to read other blogs connect with their box of thoughts and it motivates me to get better each day, sometimes people share writings that just move me so much that I realise that the horizon of your creativity is vast and it gives me different zones to think upon and It’s just amazing to connect with people who express, with a positive side especially.

May be later on my motive to write may change but one thing that’s gonna be constant is I write I hone my skill I build my Character.

Interesting…why I blog? At first it was to get my photography and travel out there, that was a popular blog that I had to stop due to a job where I had to sign non-compete/non-disclosures. A few years later I picked it up again to start my brain in the mornings, I write every day for an hour. The current blog isn’t as popular, which gets me down from time to time, but 2019 I did one of those blog2print books to give to my boys. I cherish the written words of my grandparents (long gone). I traveled a ton last year, and if I ever do have grandkids I’m hoping my boys will pass along those books.

I’ve been reading above threads. I need to find your post “Promote Your Blog.” Intrigued.

I’ve been writing poetry and stories for years. I’ve enjoyed writing groups, but ultimately it comes down to sitting with the stuff to plumb the depths. Sometimes I do not feel like plumbing the depths. Blogging allows me a hybrid: I can connect in a group and not feel isolated plus I can compose on my own. Plus I feel encouraged with the WP bloggers.

On many levels, too, the WP blogging community is much more fun than other forms of social media.

And it IS exciting when you first start out and receive feedback.

Why do you blog and what are the rewards and negatives (if any) that you have encountered?

    Why Do I Blog? 🤔
I started my blog as a companion to the Facebook Page I was trying to grow into a community.
I started almost a year ago. Admittedly, the first month I thought I’d lost my mind thinking I could set up and contribute regularly to a webpage. Though I’d read miscellaneous Blog posts, the thought of having a Blog of my own was (and still is occasionally) terrifying. I’m great one-to-one, but putting my self “out there” into the world still scared me.
Friends (most of whom don’t even follow my page!) kept encouraging me that I had something worth sharing.

What are the rewards in Blogging?
For me, the biggest reward is just starring down my fear and putting myself out “there”… wherever that is.
I have very few followers and have received very little feedback, so that side has not yet felt like a reward. However, each time I share some aspect of myself or something that interests me… my fear lessens and I’m more empowered.
The reward is personal: recognizing my voice and accepting that my voice matters, if only to me 💕

Since starting on WordPress, you were one of the first Blogs that caught my attention.

Most of what you share I already know through my own growth journey which includes many years of therapy, however I feel like you share the lessons in a very clear and simple way that speaks to many.

I always look forward to your new posts and am interested to see what topics you will choose and how you will cover it.

Thanks, this actually made me feel MORE committed to my Blog. I was considering giving it up, but now I see it is fulfilling a purpose. It’s ok if the purpose is me!

Don’t give up… keep writing….keep sharing….keep expressing…. sharing your story heals yourself and helps to heal others…. ❤️🌻🌼

Angie, it IS ok if the purpose is you! I don’t get much feedback on my blog and I’ve been blogging for 7 years now. And I don’t necessarily get the support I thought I’d get from my friends, either. Sure, great feedback and support would be nice but I’ve realized that as I’ve been trying to share joy and encouragement with others, I have received so much encouragement myself. It is therapeutic to just get my thoughts out there and to have an outlet for my creativity. Keep posting!

  266. Great blog Dr. Perry!

I enjoy your posts. I enjoy that your blog brings us like-minded bloggers together – and perhaps we’re making the world a better place with our desire to be the best version of ourselves we can be.

I blog for many reasons – to share my husband and I’s travel adventures, to explore my own feelings and emotional journey through alcohol addiction, and anxiety while walking a spiritual path as a Reiki Master Teacher. I blog about love and it’s potential and possibilities in my 55 Rules for Love series. I blog as it offers me a venue to have my own unique voice, my own personal space on the Internet.

My blog is my personal and very public journey along this journey we call life….

Great blog post! I blog because I find the journey of raising a son with autism to be a heavy topic. I like to lighten it up a bit and show case the humor side. It is a perfect set up for comedy because our “worlds” are opposite and often causes drama in just the everyday of living. However, over time I find writing to be therapeutic as the journey has changed over time. My son no longer lives at home but has transitioned to a residential school. I also give tips on just the practical everyday living from an experienced mom.

Bloggers have many things in common irrespective of their niches and reasons. Interestingly, in February, I had written an almost similar piece which I titled “Why do we write articles, books, or even blog?” to publish on another site. I never made it public though. Your blog has however stirred me to publish my version on WordPress. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yes, I do agree that connection is one of the reasons that we blog. My reason is to share knowledge and experiences. I acknowledge that in so doing, I am connecting with my readers and community.

  269. I like your posts and I also have an inclination towards how people think and why? So your posts give me some understanding. I try to put myself in someone else’s shoes and I write because I have so many thoughts, so much imagination, sometimes I even forget what I’m thinking that people might connect to. I thought if I want to reach out to a diverse crowd but some what similar thinking, I can do it by writing. I wrote my first post 2 years ago and then there was a big gap of 2 years, and recently I started blogging again. I hope to continue now. And I hope to keep reading yours too.

Refreshing read; thank youuu. I’m glad you were inspired to write this post. Starting a blog rekindled my love for writing and sharing with others without speaking. At the time, my joy was at stake, voice wasn’t being listened to, and then a close sister friend lost her life in a tragic way (someone burned her house as she slept.) It compelled me to keep encouraging others to make the most of life while we have time and reminded me to share tips for creative entrepreneurs who might want some. Looking forward to your next post!

It was and still is. Now I like to write about our life and experiences. I hope that being honest and raw through some of life’s transitions will help other people.

  273. Hi Dr. Perry! My name is Ark. You might too busy replying or engaging with readers. To save you time, your star on this comment is enough 😊

I write because I want to keep a record of my thoughts. Especially the thoughts that formed during and after certain situations. Situations that, no matter how bad and painful, always have a moral to it.

I do receive private messages from friends who actually read my blogs even they do not have wordpress account to subscribe. These very few friends who were moved or inspired by my blogs intuitively is telling me I am doing a good and the right thing for me and for others.

I only have 18 followers, very few readers, but I will write and share my stories and reflections anyway 😊

  280. Dr. Perry, I enjoy reading your posts. They are both informative and concisely written. Thank you for sharing how (and why) you began your blog journey in this positive, personal, and supportive post. I began my blog in August of 2019 because I needed a writing outlet to process many changes I was experiencing in my life at the time. My initial purpose for creating my blog has turned into a creative outlet and a connection to supportive readers and talented writers. I was extremely nervous about sharing (with the world), but I am so glad I did not let my hesitations prevent me from writing my way through change and learning more about myself along the way. 😊

I have decided to start current blog 2 years ago with the hope of sharing some positive vibes and inspirational thoughts for anyone in need of some motivation. Most blogs are random when a burning thoughts need to find a way out.

I hope there will be readers out there who get inspired by my post just like how I am inspired by reading yours .. 🤗

  287. Firstly, thank you for writing the blogs, which are always inspiring and worth reading. Love every blogs of yours I have read till today, but really feels bad for not being able to explore many of them because of not having much time due to studies.
And the reason why I started writing blogs is that I have always loved to express myself, be it through writings or speaking with people, esp when it could motivate even a single person. At first, I used to write on my mobile notes about how I feel about certain things. Then my brother suggested me to write blogs when he happened to read one of my writings about 2 months ago. This is how it happened.
What I’m loving the most about blogging is how it’s connecting people from across the world and that too in a positive way, unlike other social medias which are actually becoming antisocial nowadays in a certain level. Love how people could share their thoughts here, and how they are respecting each other’s thoughts and supporting them. In this difficult period of time, whoever is reading this, I hope you’re well and taking care of yourselves and staying safe. Love and prayers, from Nepal.🙏❤

I write as a way to get out all the thoughts spinning around in my head. It’s a way to slow down my mind and play with the words that I’d probably never say out loud. My blog is a way to therapize myself and be able to look back to gauge my progress. I think about it like a journal that’s just for my own benefit. I’ve noticed that my writing changes when it’s reader-focused. I could say the same thing about my communication in person. There’s just some things you don’t say around certain people and I’ve learned to act accordingly. When I write in my blog or when I journal, I’m not thinking about my audience at all. I’m just throwing shit out there so I can laugh at it later or cry depending on the emotion I had to release to keep my own sanity. More often than not, I don’t even remember what I wrote. I appreciate all the WP community that’s taken the time to read my posts and commented with encouraging words over the past few years. You guys are the best!

i started blogging here in a nursing home at age 79 because the pandemic offered time & focus, & because the poetry & life stories that are coming through me want to be shared. that action gives free expression to inspiration & transformation.

plus, it’s not at all ordinary or traditional & i felt that others could benefit from seeing yet another nonordinary way to be human in these times.

it’s my way of weaving the threads of my life together in this final chapter of the body’s story.

i hope that the example of the art, photography & poetry ( plus some of the backstory) may encourage others who are on an alternative spiritual journey. http://this-happened.blog

I didn’t realize you only began three years ago! You write as though you’ve been blogging for decades!

I started my first blog on WordPress back in 2011 as a way to share my writing and inspire others. I’d been told by those who read my articles and stories that they’d love them to be online and available where they can stop by. In some terms, that blog was a failure. However, to me, it gave me 8 years of experience with journaling and exploring thoughts in a way that helped others realize they weren’t alone.

Now I blog on my other blog (The Essential Creative) for fun and to build community with other bloggers and on then blog to share what I know and help others as well as share my writing.

I’ve been following you for a while and enjoy what your write. Keep up the great sharing because it much needed and appreciated!

I blog because it helps make space in my head. I have ASD and thoughts can roll around for hours. Getting it down on paper as such helps me to rationalise and process these thoughts. I can do it verbally but it’s more beneficial seeing it written down and not everyone is awake in the wee small hours lol Once it’s done I have head space. It’s good for my mental health.

I often feel conflicted about followers — on one hand I care a great deal about who reads my blog and other the other hand I think it would be healthier for me not to care. This last part is just one aspect of this journey called life. I will never know all the answers, but the exploration will be interesting and empowering. Thank you for your blog.

  305. I started blogging a few years ago because I enjoy writing. It is something I have done all of my life. My writing experience began in school when I had to write reports, poems and class projects. I blog because it is my book, it is where I share everything I enjoy doing and things that inspire me. It was a very long time before I got my first like, and follow. Then one day it just took off. I share a lot of inspiration on religion and other things. After that, I created three more blogs. I have learned so much from everyone’s blog that I have come across. Bloggers share their hearts to the world, and that takes some doing. I am thankful to everyone who has come across my blog Food for the Soul, as I have my other three linked to it. Dr. Perry, I have learned so much about a lot of things about life from you that I never would have even thought about. Your posts are so informative, educational, and straight to the point. Thank you so much for taking time out to share such valuable information with us. Blogging on WP has been an adventure for me, and I hope to continue to be inspired as the years come and go. God bless you all. Stay safe.

Eventually, I discovered other bloggers who only shared personal stories. I originally began blogging under “A Research Diva’s Journey (now I Am LaShaundreaB) to share my journey as a research dietitian. Well, I found it to be pretty boring and tedious. After writing several blogs, I decided to create this account to keep my professional and personal blogs separate. In the end, I fell in love with sharing my personal stories and basically abandoned the other site.

Second, I like to get started with writing, and maybe publish something like stories in the future.

Third, money. Granted, it is not the most noblest of reason. But hay, if I can turn my blog into an income stream…

Now, doing that without exploiting my readers is going to be my goal if I ever reached that point.
